Verse of the Day

In honor of the big Muslim Brotherhood convention starting today and celebrating "Welcoming Differences":

Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah: except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them. But Allah cautions you (To remember) Himself; for the final goal is to Allah.

The Silence of the Feminists

Another great article by Katherine Kersten:

Why Are American Feminists Silent on the Plight of Muslim Women?

American feminism – once a dynamic force for change – is no longer relevant to most women’s lives. Take the National Organization for Women’s new “Love Your Body” initiative. While many American women struggle with obesity, NOW is encouraging college women to host “indulgence parties,” ostensibly to protest a rise in eating disorders.

While NOW is indulging in this nonsense, women in some Muslim countries are denied basic human rights, and live in fear of their lives. “Honor killings” – in which a woman is murdered by her own family — are a phenomenon across the Middle East, according to a recent New York Times article. The reasons? “Family honor can be tainted by a woman’s desire to go study at a university or her use of a telephone,” says the Times. Between 100 million and 140 million girls and women have undergone female genital mutilation, according to the World Health Organization.

Why do so few American feminists seem to give a rip? Christina Hoff Sommers speculates in the Weekly Standard of May 21. The reasons, she says, are rooted in the worldview of contemporary feminist leaders, which is – “by tendency and sometimes emphatically – antagonistic toward the United States.”

As a result, says Sommers, “many feminists are tied up in knots by multiculturalism and find it very hard to pass judgment on non-Western cultures.”

It's multiculturalism mixed with anti-Americanism and moral relativism. In other words, the feminist movement is predominately left-wing and, in my opinion, cares more about it's left-wing agenda than in the plight of Muslim women. If organizations like NOW cared about these women they would have initiatives to educate American women to these practices as well as educating Muslim women immigrants to the health risks associated with Female Genital Mutilation. It would be this second initiative that would be the most helpful, for when these Muslim women visit their families back home they could educate their mothers, sisters, and friends about the terrible health problems arising from F.M.G. In many cases, once a Muslim woman has learned the truth about F.M.G. she no longer subjects her daughters to this barbaric practice. In this way, feminists have truly shown a lack of respect for their fellow women and that's about as anti-woman as it gets.

Unconstitutional

Minnesota State Constitution, Article I, Section 16:

FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE; NO PREFERENCE TO BE GIVEN TO ANY RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENT OR MODE OF WORSHIP. The enumeration of rights in this constitution shall not deny or impair others retained by and inherent in the people. The right of every man to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience shall never be infringed; nor shall any man be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any religious or ecclesiastical ministry, against his consent; nor shall any control of or interference with the rights of conscience be permitted, or any preference be given by law to any religious establishment or mode of worship; but the liberty of conscience hereby secured shall not be so construed as to excuse acts of licentiousness or justify practices inconsistent with the peace or safety of the state, nor shall any money be drawn from the treasury for the benefit of any religious societies or religious or theological seminaries.

So does this plan violate the state's Constitution?

Islamic Misogyny Meets Minnesota Nice

Violently assaulted in her native muslim land, a Somali girl receives charity in Minnesota:

Healing begins for Murayo

Murayo Ali has just checked into the Mayo Clinic hospital for a complex operation that could change her life.

Murayo was left with severe injuries after being raped at age 7 in Mogadishu and cannot control her bodily functions. Infections are a constant risk. Children tease her about her diapers. She might have trouble getting pregnant.

On her way to the store, Murayo was dragged behind a bombed-out building and raped. The attack left her with massive tears in muscle and nerve tissue in the vaginal and rectal areas, so much so "the two openings became one," said pediatric surgeon Dr. Christopher Moir.

The Mayo Clinic accepted Murayo as one of their limited number of charity cases. The hospital selects the cases on the basis of significant need, where highly unusual medical expertise is necessary.
